Pre-Arrival Preparation (Pre-boarding)
• Complete Paperwork: we gather necessary legal documents, including I-9 (eligibility to work), W-4 (tax), and banking info for direct deposit.
• Prepare Equipment & Uniforms: Ensure uniforms, aprons, name tags, and necessary kitchen tools (knives, etc.) are ready before day one.
•We communicate details: send a welcome message with start time, location, dress code (e.g., non-slip shoes), and where to report.
• Pre-shift Training: we send digital SOP handbooks or safety guidelines to review ahead of time.
•A Must Level II or Level I Background Check & Drug screening if required/requested.
First-Day Orientation
• We give a warm Welcome & Introductions: Introduce our new hire to the team, including chefs, managers, and coworkers, to foster a sense of inclusion.
• We Schedule a Restaurant Tour: Tour the facility, highlighting the kitchen, storage areas (walk-in cooler, dry storage), dish station, break room, and emergency exits.
• Review Policies: Discuss company culture, mission, and policies (cell phone usage, break, shift schedules, and absenteeism).
• Set Up Our Systems: Provide login information for time-tracking apps, POS systems, or training platforms.
Role-Specific Training
• We offer Food Safety & Sanitation Training (Crucial): Immediately cover health guidelines, proper hand-washing, food storage temperatures, cross-contamination prevention (color-coded boards), and allergy control.
• Our Clients do a Job Shadowing: Pair the new hire with a seasoned "buddy" or mentor for the first few shifts to observe workflows.
• Our Client has Station Training & Spec Cards: Teach specific station responsibilities using recipe cards (spec cards) for plating and preparation.
•Our Clients does a Equipment Training: Demonstrate safe usage of kitchen equipment (knives, ovens, grills, fryers).
Ongoing Support and Integration
• We Set 30-60-90 Day Goals: Establish clear, measurable goals for performance, skill development, and integration into the team.
•We do Regular Check-ins: Schedule Zoom meetings after the first shift, first week, and first month to provide constructive feedback, address concerns, and answer questions.
• We Encourage Open Communication: To create an environment where the employee feels comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance from either parties.
